Born Chinyere Ifeoma Ezike in the University town of Nsukka, Enugu State, she had her early education at Nsukka, obtaining Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from the University of Nigeria Nsukka.
She briefly served as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Nigeria, before relocating to Warri where she joined the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC),
as an Environmental Scientist. While in SPDC she continued her studies at the University of Port Harcourt, from where she earned a PhD in Animal and Environmental Biology. She has since worked in the different sections of the Safety and Environment function in SPDC Nigeria (Warri, Port Harcourt) and Shell International, Houston Texas, USA.
She is a director of De Legend Hotels and Suites Owerri, Imo State and is very widely traveled.
Chinyere is happily married to Dr Berti Ozumba and they have four children - three biological: Ada, Chikwado, Elochukwu and a son-in-law, Ibhade.
In 2002, she together with her husband, started a widow’s program in their hometown of Umuhu-Okabia, Orsu LGA of Imo State as their contribution to society.
This program has since become a yearly ongoing activity and has grown to the whole of Orsu LGA. It has been extended to Orlu LGA as well. They have worked with local churches to determine the right beneficiaries.
Projects completed to date include:
- Renovation of three number three-class room blocks in three community schools,
- Re-roofing of the house of an indigent widow
- Re-building St Simon’s Anglican Church at Umuhu-Okabia
- Three scholarships for tertiary education to young ladies who are children of widows.
- Gifts of 36 motorcycles, 30 colour Tv sets and over a thousand wrappers to widows.
- One-year medical insurance cover for 100 beneficiaries (including widows) through the Imo State Health Insurance scheme for year 2020.
She has a great passion for supporting widows and is currently partnering with the God’s Wives International Widows Ministry (Serendipity House Widows Foundation) to reach out to widows in Eastern Nigeria.
